A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
Developed by kamikazitaz1, pumibless, harristsui & a-shadow45
The Exhibition of A Lifetime is about exploring within a museum, interacting with your surroundings, and engaging with art to return the museum to its former glory.
Use the arrow keys to move your character and interact with the paintings by walking into them.
The Exhibition of a Lifetime is an exploration of spaces within surrealistic paintings. The representation of simulated reality vs the real world was what we wanted to focus on in our game. To portray this confusing boundary, players can enter paintings and affect their environments in order to reflect changes in the game’s reality. We wanted to mainly experiment with realism and create an outlet for expressing our thoughts on the topic and how they affect a designer’s decision. Surrealism had a large role in inspiring our game, driving its main mechanic of manipulating space within paintings due to its distorted realism in addition to the team being collectively drawn to the unique aesthetics. We also thought that with this idea of surrealism would be the idea of creating an environment where the player would be moving away from realism, hence why the player can jump into paintings. We wanted to show a clear divide between the two and show how sometimes, having an unrealistic experience could be more interesting than a realistic one.
