Process
Initial:
The initial game was Cat Purr-amid, a game made to be played with one button. We were told to build upon the mechanics that were already in the game, and make a sort of sequel to the game provided.
Playtest:
We playtested and obtained feedback on the original game to help give us ideas on what we needed to fix and what we should add. For the most part, the feedback surrounded some bugs in the game and mainly wanting to see which cat will fall next. So we implemented a little window for the player to see the next cat. Other things that were of note were that the win conditions were somewhat inconsistent, and that the variety of cats was somewhat lacking.
Development:
Our first step was to expand the visuals, we created new environments and objects fitting with the theme and used assets that weren't previously used. The new environments included a cat tree, for example. The second main change we made was for the gameplay. We decided to add a window to the dispenser so that it would be possible to see which cat would be dropping next, allowing the player to strategize more. Next, we built a bit more on the environments, and finally, we expanded on the gameplay by using an unused bird and having it move back and forth to make the game a bit more challenging for the players.
